IFOY Test Days 2018
IFOY finalists put to the test
At the beginning of February, 12 IFOY-nominated devices, components and solutions from the manufacturers BYD, Jungheinrich, Liebherr, Still, Gebr. Schulte, Wegard and Witron were subjected to the world's biggest intralogistics test at the IFOY Test Days in Hall 13 of the Hannover Trade Fair.
Over the course of one week, the testers lifted, drove, measured, stored and discussed in the jury sessions. More than 100 guests from 18 nations, including various test teams as well as more than 30 jurors and accredited consultants from industry, logistics services, media and science travelled to Hanover to follow the tests live. It is crucial that the nominees are not compared with each other, yet with their competing devices on the market.
The kick-off was given by the presentations in the category "Integrated Warehouse Solutions", to which IFOY partner CeMAT invited the jury into the Hermes Lounge of the trade fair tower. Jungheinrich showed its live central warehouse expansion at the C-parts` specialist Keller & Kalmbach. The Witron team entered the race with an omnichannel solution for the Swiss Migros Group.
The jurors and their advisory teams also drove the 5-ton ECB50C electric counterbalance truck from BYD and the newly introduced Still RX 20 electric forklift truck with a load capacity of 1.6 tons. The test list also included the high-performance EZS 7280 tractor and the ECE 225 order picker with easyPILOT Follow from Jungheinrich as well as the flagship of the OPX order picking series from Still, the OPX-L 16, and the modular tugger train from Hamburg-based start-up Wegard.
In addition to the functional tests of the cross-technology battery charging system SLH 300 from Jungheinrich and the car-like EASY Drive steering wheel from Still, the MULTIplus shelves from Schulte Lagertechnik, which were specially developed for e-commerce warehouses, were put to the test. Liebherr's MK 140 electric mobile crane presented itself as one of the highlights among the testers.
IFOY Test Certificates presented
At this year's IFOY Test Days, the Best in Intralogistics certificates were presented for the first time. BYD, Jungheinrich, Liebherr, Still, Gebr. Schulte, Wegard and Witron received the certificate at a reception in the Hermes Lounge of Deutsche Messe AG.
The Best in Intralogistics certificate was developed to document even more clearly the high degree of innovation and technical quality of the finalists who have successfully completed the IFOY test procedure, known to be the toughest selection process in intralogistics. Best in Intralogistics is the visible sign of innovation.
IFOY AWARD 2018 finalists announced
The finalists for the International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) Award 2018 have been selected. From all entrants, the jury selected 13 products and solutions from BYD, Jungheinrich, Liebherr, J. D. Neuhaus, Still, Gebr. Schulte, Wegard and Witron to compete for the world's best logistics products and solutions of the year.
In February, the finalists will compete in the second round at the international IFOY Test Days on the premises of IFOY partner CeMAT.
IFOY AWARD 2018
The Winners are ...
On the opening evening of CeMAT it became loud on the fairground in Hannover. The percussion show started an award night of surprises and the cheering could not be ignored.
After six months of selection and testing, the final straight was tighter than ever before. As always, the cheers were tremendous when the laudators revealed the traditionally well-kept secret about the winners at the CeMAT opening ceremony.
Witron Logistik + Informatik GmbH, Parkstein, Germany, triumphed in the "Integrated Warehouse Solution" category for its Migros Distribution Center Suhr AG in Switzerland. The new RX 20 from Hamburg-based Still GmbH was voted best truck of the year. This year, two vehicles can call themselves "Warehouse Truck of the Year". For the first time in IFOY history, two finalists crossed the finish line: The ECE 225 from Jungheinrich AG and the Wegard Trail from the Hamburg startup Wegard GmbH. Jungheinrich won a second IFOY Award in the "Special of the Year" category with the cross-technology SLH300 battery charger for industrial trucks. In the crane category, the MK 140 tower crane from Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH was honoured with an IFOY Award.

IFOY Award Ceremony 2018
Night of Winners ...
After the welcome address by IFOY sponsor Sascha Schmel, Managing Director of the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Sector Association and IFOY partner Dr. Jochen Köckler, Member of the Board of Deutsche Messe, the speakers revealed the winners in the categories. Liebherr, Jungheinrich, Still, Wegard and Witron won this year's IFOY Awards in five categories.
But at first the excitement was tangible, because aside from the jury, no one traditionally knows in advance which of the nominated vehicles will take home one of the prestigious awards. The winners were announced by Frank Dreeke, CEO of BLG Logistics Group, Patrick Gojer (Global Director Perfect Charging, Fronius), Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Michael ten Hompel (Managing Director of the Fraunhofer IML), Dr. Jochen Köckler (CEO, Deutsche Messe AG), Ralf Pätzold (Member of the Executive Board at Chep Germany) and Sascha Schmel (Managing Director of VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Sector Association).

In February, the finalists will compete in the second round at the international IFOY Test Days on the premises of IFOY partner CeMAT. The IFOY test measures the hard facts. The scientific IFOY Innovation Check, which is prepared by specialists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) in Dortmund, the Chair of Technical Logistics at the University of Dresden and the Chair for Machine Elements and Technical Logistics at Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg, focusses on the innovation value. In addition, the jury members drive all nominated vehicles themselves, putting them through their paces during the IFOY Test Days.
Among other things, the IFOY Award assesses innovative quality, technology, design, ergonomics, handling, safety, cost effectiveness and sustainability.
The winners will be chosen by a jury made up of 26 renowned trade journalists from leading logistics media in 18 countries around the globe. The trophies will be awarded on the opening night of the world's leading intralogistics trade fair CeMAT in Hanover.

Best in Intralogistics
At this year's IFOY Test Days, the "Best in Intralogistics" certificates were presented for the first time. BYD, Jungheinrich, Liebherr, Still, Gebr. Schulte, Wegard and Witron received the certificate at a reception in the Hermes Lounge of Deutsche Messe AG.
The `Best in Intralogistics` certificate was developed to document even more clearly the high degree of innovation and technical quality of the finalists who have successfully completed the IFOY test procedure, known to be the toughest selection process in intralogistics. Best in Intralogistics is the visible sign of innovation.
The IFOY audit lasts one week and includes various test series, which serve as decision support for the jury. In order to ensure that the performance values and innovation gap can be objectively assessed, the nominees in a category are not compared with each other, but always with comparable devices on the market.
One of the most important evaluations is the scientific IFOY Innovation Check, which is carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) in Dortmund, the Chair for Technical Logistics at the University of Dresden and the Chair for Machine Elements and Technical Logistics at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. It particularly examines market relevance, novelty value, customer benefit and type of execution are assessed. To this end, the scientists verify the innovations specified by the manufacturers in the test hall and assess in a technology comparison whether they are innovative further developments, new compositions or real innovations.
The practice-oriented IFOY test conducted by the Dutch specialised journalist Theo Egberts measures the hard facts and compares them with the relevant competitive devices. The devices are subjected to individually tailored driving or function tests, including the IFOY test protocol, which covers around 80 criteria and determines the economic efficiency and energy efficiency, sustainability, safety and ergonomics of the devices. In order to ensure that the test results are not falsified by external influences such as lighting, weather conditions or aisle widths, the test hall creates identical environmental conditions for all candidates.
After all, more than 30 jurors and accredited consultants around the globe travel to Hanover to assess the finalists themselves before they cast their votes.
