The finalists for this year`s IFOY AWARD (International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year) have been announced. The jury will send 17 products and solutions from 16 manufacturers from a field of 32 companies to compete for the best intralogistics products and solutions of the year.
The finalists are Bosch Rexroth, Combilift, Crown, Easy Mile, Geek+, Hyster, Jungheinrich, ProGlove, Raymond, Sany Europe, Still and Toyota Material Handling as well as the start-ups cellumation, doks. innovation, ForkOn and Wiferion.
All finalists will go through the IFOY Audit at the international IFOY TEST DAYS from February 6 to 13 at the exhibition grounds of IFOY partner HANNOVER MESSE. In the IFOY Test, experts measure the key figures of the finalists in a standardized procedure. And in the IFOY Innovation Check scientists assess the innovative value of the nominated products and solutions. The Innovation Check is carried out by specialists from the Dortmund Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), the Chair of Technical Logistics at the University of Dresden and the Chair of Materials Handling, Material Flow and Logistics (fml) at the Technical University of Munich.
At the end of the IFOY TEST DAYS, jurors from all over Europe, Australia, China, Brazil and Russia will travel to the metropolis in Lower Saxony to inspect the nominated products and test them themselves.
IFOY to open doors for visitors - Register now for the TEST CAMP Intralogistics!
The IFOY AWARD opens its doors to logistics decision-makers. In the newly created TEST CAMP Intralogistics on February 12 and 13, 2020, for the first time visitors will have the opportunity to experience the devices on the premises of IFOY partner Deutsche Messe in Hanover, which will also be tested by the international IFOY jury.
IFOY AWARD 2020
Finalists face multilevel assessment
It is not only considered to be the largest but also the toughest intralogistics test in the world: At the IFOY TEST DAYS on the exhibition grounds in Hannover, 16 products and solutions nominated for the IFOY AWARD from 15 manufacturers underwent a whole week of elaborate, multi-stage testing. 27 jurors from 19 nations put the nominated devices and solutions through their paces: New developments from Bosch Rexroth, cellumation, Combilift, Crown, doks.innovation, EasyMile, ForkOn, Geek+, Hyster, Jungheinrich, ProGlove, Raymond, Sany Europe, Still and Wiferion.
From February 6 to 13, the nominees were critically tested by an official tester, a team of scientists and the 27 international jurors. More than 310 visitors from 19 nations came to the capital of Lower Saxony to watch the test procedure of two days at the premises of IFOY partner HANNOVER MESSE. Among the guests for the first time were representatives from the business world, including BMW, Dachser, Rewe, Porsche and Kühne + Nagel. During the TEST CAMP on February 12 and 13, they had the opportunity to get their own impression of the nominated vehicles and solutions of the current year and previous years and to test them extensively.
This year, the three-part audit once again began with the practice-oriented IFOY test by Dutch trade journalist Theo Egberts. He compared the nominees with the relevant competitors. They underwent individually tailored driving or functional tests, including the IFOY test protocol comprising around 80 criteria, which determines factors such as economy and energy efficiency, sustainability, safety and ergonomics of the nominees. In the second part of the audit, the IFOY Innovation Check was carried out. Scientists from Fraunhofer IML and the Technical Universities of Dresden and Munich assessed the finalists in terms of market relevance, customer benefit, type of design and degree of innovation.
The audit was concluded with the assessment of the finalists by the jurors and their approved consultants. The jury members, trade journalists from all over the world, not only received all results of the IFOY Test and the scientific IFOY Innovation Check for their voting, but also had the opportunity to test the nominated machines themselves and to drive them in the test areas of the exhibition hall. In the category "Counter Balanced Truck up to 3.5t", for example, they took a close look at Still's brand-new RX 60 electric forklift truck and Hyster's J60XNL, which, among other things, has a reduced overall weight for better manoeuvrability and lower energy consumption.
The jury members tested the functions "driving", "lifting" and "lowering" at the warehouse truck finalists. The entrants were Crown's ESR 1000 and Jungheinrich's ERC 216zi, an electric truck with a fully integrated lithium-ion battery. The Combi-CS from Combilift also took part. This is a compact, pedestrian-controlled truck.
The jury members were also allowed to vote in the category "Special Vehicle". Here the enormous SRSC45H9 Hybrid Reach Stacker from Sany Europe and the Combi-CBE4 from Combilift, an electrically driven special forklift with four-wheel drive, were presented. In the category "AGV & Intralogistics Robot" the highly automated tugger TractEasy from EasyMile for indoor and outdoor use, the Courier 3030 Automated Stacker from Raymond and the C200 Robot Shuttle System from Geek+ faced the challenges of the IFOY TEST DAYS.
Two solutions underwent the three-stage audit in the category "Intralogistics Software". The "Locator - Laser Localisation Software" from Bosch Rexroth automatically maps the environment with the help of a laser sensor, thus creating a basis for autonomous driving in intralogistics and production environments. "The ProGlove Cloud" from ProGlove helps companies to map a digital twin of their processes and thus better manage devices.
No less than four companies competed in the "Startup of the Year" category: ForkOn's fleet management software is the first manufacturer-independent version for forklifts and other industrial trucks. With inventAIRy® X, the company doks.innovation has launched a drone that, in combination with sensors and a camera, is capable of fully automatic inventory recording. The celluveyor from cellumation is a modular material flow system consisting of hexagonal cells that can be combined to form any layout and provide significantly more flexibility in the warehouse. Wiferion entered the IFOY AWARD to convince the jury of etaLINK 3000, the first market-ready 100 percent contactless charging system for industrial electric vehicles.
Which companies will win the IFOY 2020 this year will remain a well-kept secret for a few more weeks. Traditionally, apart from the members of the jury, no one knows the overall result of the tests before the awards ceremony, which takes place during the big IFOY AWARD Night on April 20 at HANNOVER MESSE.
IFOY AWARD 2020
BMW forklift drivers testing the IFOY innovations
Marco Forchhammer, Harald Grzeschik, Alexander Kühn and Johann Ruland. The four experienced forklift drivers from the BMW plant in Regensburg are well aware from their everyday work of what is important in industrial trucks and what exactly makes a good forklift truck. As part of the TEST CAMP Intralogistics, they have taken a close look at all the vehicles nominated for the IFOY this year and in previous years. The VIP testers assessed the forklifts and industrial trucks in terms of the criteria market relevance, customer benefit, degree of innovation and functionality. In the end, their commitment was honoured in a special way: with a special trophy. The IFOY VIP tester award was presented for the first time this year.
The test had demanded a lot from the drivers. Theo Egberts, official IFOY tester, had developed a special test course for the BMW drivers, where they had to lift pallets upright and crosswise with a lot of sensitivity and put them down again exactly. A move that also goes down well with Marcus Wollens, Vice President Steering Production, Production System, Controlling, Logistics at the plant of BMW in Regensburg: "Our drivers have the relevant know-how about what makes a good forklift truck and what requirements it has to meet. It is a special honour for them that they are now allowed to put the IFOY models through their paces".
In total, the drivers took a close look at 19 different vehicles from six different manufacturers. Among them were not only forklift trucks and industrial trucks nominated for the IFOY AWARD 2020 but also numerous candidates from previous years, including the STILL iGo neo or the CROWN C-5 Four-Wheel LPG. "It is interesting for the drivers to see how much is happening on the forklift truck market over the years", emphasised Anita Würmser, Chairperson of the IFOY jury. "In addition, satisfied drivers are an asset for any company, as equipping them with good trucks and industrial trucks can help in the fight against the shortage of skilled workers," she made clear.
For this reason, the IFOY organisations wants to enable more teams of forklift truck drivers to take part as VIP testers at the IFOY TEST DAYS next year. Interested companies can now apply for this by e-mail at

IFOY AWARD 2020
The Winners are ...
IFOY goes Hollywood. The flying robot "I-T20", short for "IFOY Transformer 2020", specially created for the premiere of the digital awards ceremony, was the star of the evening alongside the IFOY winners 2020. As the I-T20 transformed itself into the categories during the awards ceremony and "beamed" the trophies to the winners, the cheering was great at the world premiere of the digital ceremony, as always at an IFOY awards ceremony.
IFOY AWARD 2020
Start-ups draw a positive balance
Three start-ups, which participated in the International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) AWARD for the first time in 2020, draw a positive balance afterwards. This is the result of a webinar entitled "IFOY AWARD 2020: Start-up Special", which Wiferion, the award winner in the "Start-up of the Year" category, held in cooperation with the IFOY AWARD organisation on July 23. In addition to a co-founder of Wiferion, two representatives of the two finalists Doks. innovation and Cellumation took part.

From the logistics services sector, BLG, Dachser, Kühne + Nagel, DB Schenker, Schnellecke, LTG, Seifert Logistics and numerous other logistics service providers were represented.
Interest in the neutral expertise of the IFOY AWARD is growing in the business world. Both, large DAX-listed corporations and medium-sized companies sent intralogistics experts to the TEST CAMP, some of whom are responsible for purchasing volumes in the double-digit million range. In a quiet test atmosphere they were able to form their own opinion on the latest innovations.
The camp offered the guests the opportunity to gather intensive information over two days in the test arena. They were able to take part in 16 guided highlight tours on the most important intralogistics topics, hold bilateral talks with the representatives of the IFOY nominees and put the equipment through its paces themselves in cordoned-off fields.
The camp visitors had the opportunity to network with VIP guests, representatives of the manufacturers, scientists of the IFOY Innovation Check and the international jury members during the IFOY Dinner.
Neither the visitors nor the nominees will find out who won an IFOY AWARD during the IFOY TEST DAYS. They all have to be patient for a few more weeks. Only during the IFOY AWARD NIGHT on April 20th, the opening day of the Hannover Messe, the verdict of the international jury will be announced.
